Cracking any Interview has always been very challenging for any interviewee, be it for a job in an organization or a seat in a college or school. The problem he is we tend to sell something which we don’t have. Let’s take an example to understand this, consider a man who is very thirsty. So his primary look out would be water or some similar beverage. Now if you try to sell him a fruit, say a banana will he buy? No, though he may buy a watermelon. And the irony is forget banana, we try to sell him probably a rain coat most of the times. So basically what we need to understand is the need of our employer. Lots of times we hear people saying that they did an awesome interview still they were not selected. The problem here is the mismatch, they were probably good candidates but they didn’t match the job profile. If I need a sales person, no matter how good you are in your technical, i won’t hire you. The day i need a technical person, may be you would be the first one i would hire but not today, because today i need a person good in sales.
Secondly, you have to know yourself. Are you clear if you are actually a banana or a watermelon? If not, you have to be. Now the question is How? Well the answer is very simple. You need to sis with yourself. What we do is; we will talk to our seniors, peers, friends, family everyone. Whom we don’t talk to is, ourselves. When was the last time you put in efforts and time to know yourself. Sit with a pen and a paper today. Shut yourself off from all the so called socializing devices. Now try to recall you past as far as you can, what were your hobbies when you were a teen, what did you like when you were in 10th grade, what didn’t you like, what interests you still, what was that thing which you really liked but don’t do now, what new interests have you developed. Create an entire picture for yourself, now this is who you are. This will help answer all the questions in the interview.
